Bye Grandma
My Grandma Pat died last Monday after a long fight with lung cancer. We knew she didn't have much time left, but I expected to get a little more time with her. I am really going to miss her.
This is a video my brother Josh made. (Yes, that's me in a half shirt, sometime around 1985. I'm not sure what my mom was thinking dressing me in that thing.)

Meet Jack
When I came home from work on my birthday this is what I found waiting for me. He is 8 weeks old and his name is Jack. Him and TJ are beginging to get along. It took a few days before Jack would go near TJ. Now he is always playing with his tail or chewing on his ears. TJ has snapped at him a few times but not enough to hurt him. Brandon has found out that he is very playful, especially in the middle of the night. All he want to do is bite.
I had a great birthday. Annette and Jason came down for lunch on saturday ( we went to Jantz Cafe) and then we all met at Christina and Brandon's house for dinner. I got some great gifts from all of them. On sunday Brandon's parents and grandparents came down and we all went to lunch.
Thanks to all my family for a great birthday.

New job
I got a new job this week. I was hired as the online editor at the Merced Sun-Star, a daily newspaper of about 20,000 circulation. It's a new position and part of my duties will includegoing out to find content -- written, audio and video -- for the web site. But first, I will lead a redesign of the site. Sounds like it's going to be a lot of fun, and it's with a good company. I know several people at the Sun-Star already, and the paper is part of the McClatchy chain. I will miss working at the Turlock Journal (I was there for four years), but I'm not happy with recent changes there. Oh, and I get to ditch my commute! We moved to Merced a few months ago and I've been driving 25 miles each day to Turlock (and on Tuesdays and Fridays I've had to drive 60 miles to Manteca). The Sun-Star office is about two blocks from our house, so I'll be able to walk there if I feel like it (which I probably won't.)

Playing in our pool
With the weather being so hot we decided to buy a little pool.

Brandon relaxing in the water.
Brandon decided to fill the pool and see if TJ can swim.

This is our garden. We have strawberries, tomatoes, cucumbers, lettuce, watermelons, peppers, cantelope, green onions, and an artichoke plant. We started out really small and it became a jungle of fruit and vegetables.
These are two of our four cucumbers.
One of the many watermelons we will be getting this year. Look how tiny.

This is TJ. He's a longhair dachshund with the worst breath ever. We rescued him from the shelter in Turlock back in September. The vet said he is about nine years old.

Amanda's new job

AMANDA:
In January I finally got the job of my dreams, working at Jantz Cafe and Bakery in Atwater. I work 5pm to midnight, monday through friday. I have now learned how to make approximately 12 fruit pies, 10 cream pies, all kinds of bread, cookies, muffins, turnovers and more. There are 3 of us ladies who work nights and do all the baking. The owners are very open to letting me try new things. I now make 3 dozen sugar cookies every day. They even made me my own sticker for the box. For the last 2 holidays I made 18+ dozen cookies and they all sold within hours.
